Pipeline pretty much maxed out yesterday, meaning that the reef couldn’t handle anymore increase in the swell. The increase in wave size had thinned out the crowd quite a bit since the morning. Fewer than 10 brave surfers were out doing battle at Pipeline yesterday evening. I shot some photos of the action from down by Off The Wall for about the last hour or so before Sunset. Here are the highlights!
Making one hell of a drop.
A lot of the waves were doubling up at Pipeline, making for some weird conditions.
Crazy backwash at Off The Wall.
One of the few small, manageable barrels out there last night.
A bodyboarder air dropping in.
Another intense drop by a bodyborader.
Crazy closeout action at Off The Wall.
Throwing down a big turn at Pipe.
Backdoor offered some nice rides too.
Reef Macintosh scored a beautiful ride at Backdoor and cruised all the way in.
Scratching for a moment of safety at the top.
Another epic drop at Pipeline.
A Hawaiian making the paddle out with just a few minutes of daylight left.
Exit shot: a pretty much perfect sunset. It’s tough to beat moments like this.
